Laurence Cooper, professor of political science, published an article in the journal National Affairs titled, “Freedom Well Understood.” The article argues that a more republican conception of freedom than that which prevails now would be truer to the founding principles of the American constitutional order and more promising as a basis on which to improve or at least detoxify today’s political scene.
